Early Childhood Indigenous Education Gathering
About the Event
Engage in a focused discussion with tribal nations and others who provide services to American Indian children, families, communities, and nations related to how the DPI can best support young Indigenous learners in Wisconsin. Participants will identify potential programming and activities that will be a starting point for the DPI and build and strengthen relationships with stakeholders across Wisconsin.
Additionally, the event will provide an opportunity to support and learn about the innovative work each of you are doing. The event offers a venue for collaborative connections for stakeholders to learn from and support one another.

Learning Objectives
By attending the event , participants will:
- provide suggestions to promote the importance of early education for children and families within American Indian nations and tribal communities of Wisconsin
- have an opportunity to collaborate with other stakeholders across Wisconsin
- learn about initiatives and programming regarding early childhood education
- identify local needs and supportive and authentic resources including future opportunities for connections
Target Audience
Anyone with a personal or professional interest in early childhood tribal education is welcome to attend. Some attendees of past programming have included:
- Tribal Head Start and Early Childhood Directors and Staff
- Tribal Education Directors and Staff
- School District Leadership and Staff
- Cooperative Educational Service Agencies (CESAs) and State Agencies

Event Format
The gathering will be 6 hours in length and facilitated by Bwaakoningwiid David J. O'Connor, Sherry W. Kimball, and Eva M. Kubinski in partnership with respective presenters for the training. The training is intended to be interactive and will include discussion time.
Registration and Fees
There are NO registration fees to participate. This event is offered by the DPI American Indian Studies Program, which is funded through the Individuals with Disabilities Education Improvement Act (IDEA).
