Act 20 within an EMLSS

2023 Wisconsin Act 20 (Act 20) strives to ensure that each WI student is a proficient reader by the end of grade 3. This session will situate the requirements of Act 20 within Wisconsin’s framework for an Equitable MultiLevel System of Supports (EMLSS). Participants will leave with an understanding of how to utilize an EMLSS to systematically and systemically meet the immediate needs of students not yet meeting reading expectations while strengthening universal instruction to ensure fewer students are in needs of intervention. The session will include discussion of collaboration, high-quality instruction, and strategic use of data within universal instruction and a continuum of supports with special attention to supporting students’ overall wellbeing and academic and behavioral success.
